Tips. A dirty air filter works better than one that is cleaned before each use of the mower.

Only clean it when the mower loses power. Mower blades usually only need to be sharpened once per season, but if you see choppy patterns when you mow, check the sharpness of the blades. Check the operator’s manual for the proper intervals to grease fittings and check fluids; it varies by model. If a mower is heavily used or used in very dusty or hilly conditions, it will need to be serviced more often. Blow all debris off of the mower deck’s topside and underside with an air compressor after each use.

You may need to use your hand to scrape caked grass from the underside.
