Just purchased a '99 Genesis (carbs). Bought from a jetski mechanic who did a full service on it this year. He put in a new CDI box, replaced all fuel lines, cleaned the carbs, new AGM battery.

Tested compression: 140-140-135. Hull is in near perfect condition, needs one segment of foot pads, rear seat is fading, but still in ok condition. Otherwise, everything is in good working condition: gauges/buttons, electric reverse, throttle cable, starter. Weekend water test showed it ran well, started easily, top speed 62mph.

But there is no Owners Manual or Service Manual. Looked online and could not find anything specifically for the 1999 model year. Would a 2001 Owners Manual have much in the way of differences? I know that a number of changes were introduced in 2002. So I'm hoping a 2001 book would be fine?

Also, regarding Service Manuals. Which are good and which are ones to avoid? I'm guessing the Polaris Factory Service Manuals are the best. But again nothing OEM for 1999 available right now?

Again would a 2001 book be fine? Yes, that link is awesome. Fantastic information.

Wish I would have known about it years ago! This is not my first Polaris PWC. I have had a 1996 SLT-780 for almost 20 years. It has served me well, super reliable. But now that the kids are not kid-sized any more, I find that its 93HP just won't pull 2 adult-sized kids up on a tube any more.

And my wife would really appreciate the step up ladder in the back and the huge rear platform to boot! Have had my eye out for a good used Genesis for a few years now and I think I got a good one! Time will tell. Now all this great information available online, my PWC's are at the cottage, with limited internet access. So I always like to have an original Owners Manual and a Service Manual on paper just in-case. So my original question still stands. Would a 2001 owners manual work ok for a 1999 model?

You can download the PDF documents, even on a mobile device. You may want to install an app that can properly handle really large PDF files. Some of the files can be over 200MB. Or you can print the entire thing and carry it in a binder.

I suggest double sided printing The 1999 Genesis FFI was the very first model year. First year for the Genesis four person hull, first year for the FFI fuel injection. First year for the MFI dash display. First year for electric reverse. The 1999 Genesis has a unique exhaust system with dual exhaust exits under the waterline, below the hull. 2000-2004 use a simpler and more normal exhaust exit into the pump tunnel cavity. 1999 Genesis FFI Ficht is the only model and year where the fuel injectors are 100% matched, all the 1999 fuel injectors are exactly the same.

These fuel injectors are unique to 1999 Genesis FFI engines, as is the EMM. If you ever need to swap out the 1999 EMM for a different year EMM, the injectors must also be swapped out.

After 1999 Polaris switched to a compensation mapped injectors+EMM system, so the 2000-2004 Ficht injectors are all slightly different and flow matched to the individual EMM. The 1999 Genesis FFI factory original wire harness is known to develop corrosion at the many wire splices and especially the black wires in the grounding harness. It was not unusual for dealers to replace the entire factory wire harness. Apparently the service replacement wire harness was better made and much more reliable. If the original 1999 FFI wire harness is still installed, be aware that corrosion within the harness can cause all sorts of weird electrical problems. The 2001 Genesis is overall similar to 1999, but differs in various details.

Polaris Owner's Manuals tend to be somewhat generically written. Sometimes there are model specific details, often the information is more broadly applicable to many models. The 1999 Genesis that I bought (yesterday) has a carberated engine. Are there similar differences for the carbed engines year to year? The underwater dual exhaust creates additional backpressure, which tends to make the idle lumpy and may affect the carb tuning below about 1/2 throttle.

Inspect all the rubber hoses and fittings in the exhaust. Loose hose clamps, previously over heated rubber sections, squishy rubber, delaminations inside the rubber layers.

Since the exhaust system is partially below the water line any leaks may sink the machine. And exhaust leaks into the hull will affect engine power, even tiny exhaust leaks. There were some Polaris models that had the Bing carburetors. I don't recall if the Genesis ever used Bing carbs. Sometimes the Bing carbs get swapped out by a frustrated owner for the better liked Keihin carburetors.

Electrical - the 1999 carb models used a separate Start/Stop module (LR-502? ) and separate LR voltage regulator module.

In later model years these were combined into the LR-505 module. The LR-505 can be retrofitted into the older model Genesis. I think your machine will have two electrical boxes. One in the engine area, and perhaps another electrical box up front, somewhere below the dash. May be hidden behind the access panel in front storage area.

Genesis

1999 Genesis did not have a storage bucket below the rear seat. I forget whether the rear storage bucket from a later model year would fit into the 1999. Might need to also fit the 2000-2004 seat. Well, I finally took possession of the Genesis yesterday.

It starts up just beautiful. The choke mechanism is different from my SLT-780, in that the one in the Genesis is not spring loaded, you pull it out and it stays out. The prev owner said that I could also just pump the throttle lever as it will squirt gas into the carbs that way. And not use the choke at all? Either way, it started easily. Once it is warmed up, it ran fantastic, especially in the higher rpm range.

One thing that I noticed is that it does struggle to stay in the low-to-mid rpm range (I think you mentioned something about that). Holding the throttle steady around 3500-4000rpm, it will slowly drop in revs, but a quick blip on the throttle and it gets right back up? Not sure if that is normal or does it require some 'tuning'?
